Notes on Usage
The name Bahá'u'lláh is Arabic and means "The Glory of God." Another spelling is Baha'u'llah (without diacriticals). Other transliterations of this Name are Bahaullah and Baha Allah.
The religion established by Bahá'u'lláh is referred to as the Bahá'í Faith and is sometimes spelled Bahai. It is not considered correct to call it Bahaism.
Maps of Iran and the Ottoman Empire
By the time of Bahá'u'lláh’s first exile, in 1853, the Ottoman Empire was approaching the end of 500 years of regional supremacy and world influence. Far gone were its greatest days of glory, yet its religious leaders dominated the vast majority of the followers of Muhammad and its potentates still ruled subjects on three continents.
These two maps illustrate the route of Bahá’u’lláh’s banishment across the vast regions of Iran and the Ottoman Empire.
